Who are psychotherapeutic counsellors?
Sometimes described as 'talking therapies', psychotherapy aims to improve your mental health and wellbeing by exploring your concerns, thoughts, feelings and in some cases, past experiences.
Types of counselling provided
Relational
How we form relationships goes back to our earliest experiences. These experiences create patterns which become the blueprint for our future relationships and can also determine what we expect, want and need from others in relationship. Sometimes, a pattern learned early in life can be harmful to us or impact on us in a negative way without us really understanding why. Relational Counselling aims to provide a confidential, non judgemental , safe space to explore how patterns or adaptations show up in our lives in the here and now and how this may impact our health and wellbeing.
The study of relational psychotherapy encompasses as wide range of theories from diverse fields including Gestalt, transactional analysis and object relations therapy. It is linked to the developmental theories of attachment, human development, neuroscience and shame.
Helen Osman is a relational counsellor and is available for appointments at West-Gate on a Friday. For more information about Helen or to book an appointment, visit the 'meet the counsellors' page.
