Understanding Wrist and Hand Pain
Wrist and hand pain can manifest in various forms, including sharp or dull aches, stiffness, swelling, or tingling sensations. It can result from a variety of causes, such as repetitive strain, injury, or underlying health conditions.
Common causes of wrist and hand pain include:
Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI):Â Continuous repetitive movements, such as typing or using a mouse, can cause strain and pain in the wrist and hand.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:Â Compression of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel in the wrist, leading to pain, numbness, and tingling.
Arthritis:Â Inflammation of the joints in the wrist and hand can cause pain and stiffness, commonly seen in osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
Tendonitis:Â Inflammation of the tendons in the wrist and hand due to overuse or injury.
Fractures and Sprains:Â Trauma to the wrist or hand, such as falls or direct blows, can result in fractures or sprains.
Trigger Finger:Â A condition where a finger gets stuck in a bent position and then straightens with a snap, due to inflammation of the tendons.
De Quervain's Tenosynovitis:Â Inflammation of the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist, causing pain during movement.
