MICROSUCTION
Simple, safe ear wax removal.

Ear wax is completely normal and helps protect your ears, but sometimes it can build up and become uncomfortable or affect your hearing. At The West-Gate Clinic, we offer both microsuction and ear irrigation to safely remove excess ear wax.
Do you need ear wax removal?
Ear wax removal may be suitable if you’re experiencing:
Blocked or muffled hearing

A feeling of fullness or pressure in the ear

Earache or discomfort
​
Itching inside the ear
​
Ringing or buzzing in the ear (tinnitus)
​
Dizziness or a sensation of imbalance
​
A noticeable build-up of ear wax
​
You may also choose to have your ears checked if you regularly experience wax build-up or need your ears clear for hearing aids or other reasons.

Why choose professional ear wax removal?
Trying to remove ear wax yourself can push it further into the ear or damage the delicate skin inside the ear canal. Cotton buds, fingers and other objects should never be inserted into the ear.

At The West-Gate Clinic, your ears will be examined before treatment so we can assess the amount and position of the wax and determine which removal method is most appropriate.

Both microsuction and irrigation are established methods of ear wax removal. Your practitioner will explain the procedure, answer any questions you have and make sure you're comfortable throughout.
Microsuction or irrigation?
Your practitioner will assess your ears and advise which method is most suitable for you.
Microsuction​
Microsuction uses a small suction device to gently remove wax from the ear canal. It doesn't require water and can be a suitable option for many people, including those who may not be suitable for ear irrigation.
Ear irrigation​
Ear irrigation uses a gentle flow of body-temperature water to flush softened wax from the ear. The procedure usually takes around 15–30 minutes, depending on the amount and position of the wax.
Before your appointment
To help soften the wax and make removal easier, we ask that you use olive oil drops in both ears daily for 7 days before your appointment.
Around 1ml per ear is sufficient.
Please don't use cotton buds or put anything else inside your ears.
