injection therapy

Targeted injections for joint, tendon and bursal conditions.

At West-Gate Clinic, we offer injection therapy for selected musculoskeletal conditions to help reduce pain, improve function and support recovery.

Injection therapy is a medical treatment that uses a needle and syringe to deliver medication or therapeutic substances into, or around, a specific joint, tendon, bursa or soft tissue. The treatment is targeted at the affected area, with the aim of managing symptoms and improving movement.

When might injection therapy be suitable?

Injection therapy may be considered for certain musculoskeletal conditions where pain and inflammation are affecting your movement, comfort or everyday activities.

Depending on your symptoms and clinical assessment, treatment may be suitable for:

Osteoarthritis (OA): Joint pain and stiffness associated with osteoarthritis, including selected cases affecting the knee, hip and shoulder.

Joint pain and inflammation: Where injection therapy may help manage symptoms.

Tendon-related conditions: Selected painful tendon conditions where injection therapy is appropriate.

Bursal conditions: Including greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) and knee bursitis.

What types of injection therapy do you offer?

We offer different types of injection therapy, including corticosteroid (cortisone) and hyaluronic acid injections. Each works differently and may be suitable for different conditions and symptoms.

Corticosteroid injections

Corticosteroids are anti-inflammatory medications that help reduce inflammation and pain in affected joints and surrounding tissues. They may be recommended to help manage painful or inflamed conditions and improve comfort.

Hyaluronic acid injections

Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally found in joint fluid. These injections are designed to supplement the fluid within a joint, helping to improve lubrication and cushioning. They may be considered for certain people experiencing joint pain, particularly associated with osteoarthritis.

Which injection is right for me?

You don't need to know which type of injection you need before booking an appointment. During your initial assessment, your practitioner will discuss your symptoms, medical history and treatment goals before determining whether injection therapy is appropriate and which option, if any, may be suitable for you. They'll explain the recommended treatment, what to expect and any potential risks, so you can make an informed decision about your care.

What to expect?

Book your consultation

Your first appointment is an opportunity to discuss your symptoms, medical history, previous treatments and how your pain is affecting you.

Clinical assessment

Your injection therapist will carry out an appropriate clinical assessment to understand your condition and determine whether injection therapy is suitable.

Discuss your treatment options

If injection therapy is appropriate, your therapist will explain the recommended approach, including suitable options such as corticosteroid or hyaluronic acid injections. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions before deciding how to proceed.

Arrange your injection

If you decide to go ahead, a separate appointment will be arranged for your injection. Your therapist will explain what to expect and any relevant aftercare advice.
